No Women, No Peace

Day 8 of the Prajnya 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Violence 2013 took us to Madras University, to the Centre for South and South East Asian Studies. Dr Swarna Rajagopalan conducted a short course on women, peace and conflict, called 'No Women, No Peace'.

The course started with an assignment that everyone had to participate in. "Draw security," said Dr Swarna, and the results were varied and interesting. From fences and armed guards, to a circle including food security financial security, health etc the students (and professors!) came up with their own interpretation of the word. From there, the course took off to the life of women during war/conflict, and the lived realities of people during conflict.
