The 16 Days Campaign

"16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence" is an advocacy strategy devised at Rutgers University Center for Women's Leadership in 1991. The 16 Days include several international observance dates:
  • November 25: International Day Against Violence Against Women
  • November 29: Women Human Rights Defenders Day
  • December 1: World AIDS Day
  • December 10: Human Rights Day
The strategy has now been adopted by campaigners worldwide. Working over sixteen days allows us to think of different kinds of violence, approach the issues in multiple ways, work with difference sections and groups in society and through a variety of media. Educators as much as advocates, it allows us to take advantage of the power of multiple iterations and multiple learning modes to make an impact.
