Eighteen months after a 23-year-old American student of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was allegedly gang raped, the case has wound up with all six accused acquitted. Ironically, it was this testimony which proved to be the undoing of the prosecution's case, and ultimately led to all the six walking free. On April 15, 2009, the TISS student had registered a complaint with the Trombay police alleging gang rape by six of her friends on April 12. The complainant was here to do a four-month course at the institute and had accompanied the men to XO bar in Deonar, and subsequently to an apartment in Andheri where she alleged she was drugged and gang raped.
