An Early Morning Rendezvous with Cyclists

Today, Anupama Srinivasan and I woke up at 4:30 AM to go meet with a group of very committed and very enthusiastic cyclists who were there for our cycling rally 'Cycling for Change'. Part of the 2014, Prajnya 16 Day Campaign Against Gender Violence, this was an effort by our GEM Pravin Shekar to engage in community action to raise awareness and disseminate information.

Starting at Madhya Kailash at 5:00 AM, with Prajnya banners and stickers adding to their bright outfits, the cyclists charted a course to Besant Nagar and then on to Marina. They went full circle and came back to Madhya Kailash to end their ride.

Along the way, they served as mobile advertisements sharing our "Say NO to Violence" message with everyone who glanced their way. They also stopped at Marina beach to talk to walkers and others about what they were doing and why they were doing it. And distributed Prajnya's Call for Help, a listing of helplines, counselling services, emergency shelters, safe homes and legal aid for women in distress.

Truly, individual action at work but as a collective. What could be better?
