On the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Violence against Women, we launched the 2020 edition of the Gender Violence in India report (GVR) as we have done in recent years.
The 2020 edition was curated and authored by Kausumi Saha. We invited Semmalar Selvi to contribute a chapter on the intersection of caste and gender violence, looking at the politics of violence against Dalit women.
The GVR retains the core structure and content of previous editions but this year, Kausumi has added two new sections on custodial sexual violence and on violence against LGBTIQA+ persons. We will retain these in future editions.
The COVID-19 impact runs through the 2020 edition, as it ought. We go beyond a discussion of increased domestic violence rates to look at it across the spectrum of sexual and gender-based violence.
You can access the 2020 GVR here. We hope you will find it useful.
